Fun Filled Weekend with Friends From Singapore

From 9 to 12 March our friends from the Singaporean Tourism Board took four days out of their busy schedule to come and volunteer at Sahabat Anak. Their four day visit was jam-packed.

On Friday and Monday they painted murals, played games, sung songs, and set up the new library with the students from the Children’s Activity Centre.

Playing games with the children at the Prumpung Study House.

On the weekend they spent their time hanging out with the children at Sahabat Anak Prumpung, playing games and doing a photo hunt. Then in the afternoon they took the Gerobak Pintar (a mobile library) around the area and read books with the children living in Prumpung.

Time flies when you are having fun, and the four days flew by extremely fast! In just a very short time our friends from the Singaporean Tourism Board have left a lasting impression on the children and volunteers at Sahabat Anak.

I had so much fun. I liked playing bingo and painting the murals. – Nova

I liked when we played bingo and I really liked the volunteers from Singapore. They are nice and funny. – Gunawan

This is what Tuan from the Singaporean Tourism Board had to say about the weekend:

I just need to let you know that the 11 of us, while back in the office and into our daily routine, are still talking and reminiscing so much about the wonderful time we had with the children and with you at Sahabat Anak! 2012 has just begun. But this surely is to be among the highlights for me this year!

We would like to say a big thank you to everyone at the Singaporean Tourism Board who helped to make this happen. Thank you for spending time with us and helping to make a difference. Thank you for all your creativeness, activities, games, excitement and passion to help. We thoroughly enjoyed our time together! And hope to see you all again soon! : )

About Sahabat Anak

Sahabat Anak is a non-profit organisation that provides quality education and children’s rights advocacy in an effort to encourage and inspire Jakarta’s street children to escape urban poverty. The movement began in 1997 after a group of university students made a commitment to make a difference in the lives of Indonesia's street children. As a volunteer-based organisation, Sahabat Anak aims to involve as many members of the community as possible to help improve the lives of street children.
