Sahabat Anak Clinic: A Small Step in Promoting Indonesian Children’s Rights to Health Care
The Sahabat Anak Clinic is one of our latest programs which commenced in 2011. The aim of the clinic is to visit the eight Sahabat Anak Tutorial Areas and a some of our partner organisations who are in need of health services.
This clinic is extremely important for the eight Sahabat Anak Tutorial areas and partner organisations because not every area has a special program for monitoring the children’s health. Until recently Sahabat Anak did not have the resources or manpower for this program. Our primary focus has been to provide supplementary education and equip children with skills that are not taught at school.
The Sahabat Anak Clinic is not only supported by volunteers from Sahabat Anak but also by our friends from Gereja KristianGunung Sahari (The of Indonesia, Gunung Sahari). The lack of medical staff participating in the clinic has not halted the activities of the Sahabat Anak Clinic.
Some health programs have commenced in the Tutorial Areas and volunteers, doctors, nurses and some friends have registered themselves through Sahabat Anak’s social media outlets to assist with the programs.
The Sahabat Anak Clinic is still looking for suitable modes of implementation in each Tutorial Area for checking the children’s health. The Sahabat Anak Clinic Team has received assistance from the volunteers at the Tutorial areas which already have health programs and systems in place.
At Sahabat Anak Prumpung the children already have books which record medical results such as height and weight. In addition to this there are special notes in the book detailing the medical advice which will be followed up at the next health program. When the next health program takes place, the children will bring these books and volunteers will update the notes according to the latest information.
While the implementation is currently very simple, we hope that this program will continue to develop. During the latest health check the Sahabat Anak Medical Team and doctors, equipped with medicine, visited SA Prumpung. Since then the health program has developed even more. The doctors informed us that some of our children need to receive treatment from a hospital because they have diseases which cannot be cured by medicine provided by the Sahabat Anak Clinic.
We hope that the Sahabat Anak Clinic will continue to bring new life to monitoring the health of our children and our partner organisations.
If you would like to participate in this program, please follow Sahabat Anak’s local newsletters or follow the program on Sahabat Anak’s Twitter and Facebook . You do not need to be a doctor or nurse to assist with this program. We encourage all members of the community to work together to improve the lives of all Indonesia’s children.
