“SEKOLAH DATANG” for Future Generations

The need of a mobile unit to support the educational and health materials for Sahabat Anak’s children is now being met through the support of Bisolvon Indonesia. Through the “Partner in Care” program, Bisolvon Indonesia has provided a vehicle for the mobile unit we’re calling “Sekolah Datang”. The van has been modified to enable Sahabat Anak to provide storybooks, educational games and basic health services for the children. Bisolvon Indonesia’s Senior Brand Manager, Dewi Isnaniar, expressed the hope that this van will help the volunteers to provide educational needs in Sahabat Anak’s study areas.

On Sunday, 11 May 2014, the “Sekolah Datang” van launch ceremony was held at Bank Mandiri Museum, Kota Tua, Jakarta. The main guests of this event were Sahabat Anak’s children. The event was full of fun with impressive storytelling by Kak Awam Prakoso, a Tortor dance performance by the children from Sahabat Anak’s Children Activity Center (PKA), and a percussion show by the children from Sahabat Anak Cijantung. The children also enjoyed the company of Kak Nadia Mulya and Kak Astrid Tiar.

The enthusiasm of the children was as plain as a day when, one by one, they got into that cheerful yellow van to see the books inside. They were very keen in opening and reading the books while sitting around the car. Happiness was on their faces the whole day. They got lost in the story told entertainingly by Kak Awam. The children were full of spirit when, in groups, they played several games with the volunteers, and full of smiles every time they received gifts. “I’m happy! The event is exciting and enjoyable” said Wahyu, one of the children from Sahabat Anak Kota Tua. The same tone also expressed by Nanang, from Sahabat Anak’s Activity Center (PKA), when asked about the event: “I love to listen to the story told by Kak Awam, I’m happy to perform and to gather with other kids”.

Kak Nadia Mulya, who accompanied the children throughout the event, also gave a positive comment, “I have really enjoyed the event. Everyone who’s involved — each of the volunteers, the medical team, the storyteller — is doing everything wholeheartedly and full of dedication. When it comes to education, you will always have my support”.

Hopefully, Bisolvon Indonesia’s involvement in supporting Sahabat Anak’s vision will be followed by more and more people. This van with cheery color, surely, will bring more cheers to the children and be useful in helping to provide their educational materials and health needs.

Come, CLASSROOM, COME! We welcome you with joy!

About Sahabat Anak

Sahabat Anak is a non-profit organisation that provides quality education and children’s rights advocacy in an effort to encourage and inspire Jakarta’s street children to escape urban poverty. The movement began in 1997 after a group of university students made a commitment to make a difference in the lives of Indonesia's street children. As a volunteer-based organisation, Sahabat Anak aims to involve as many members of the community as possible to help improve the lives of street children.
