Ratusan Ribu Anak Hidup Di Jalan, Apakah Pilihanmu?

Read the rest of this entry

Hundreds of Thousands of Children Live On The Street! What Is Your Choice?

Dian giving a speech at the recent opening of Sahabat Anak's new secretariat and Children's Activity Centre - Rumah Sahabat.

In life, we cannot escape choices. From the moment we wake up in the morning we are faced with many options: Which clothes should I wear? What to eat this morning? Which road should I take?  There are times when I doubt that I am choosing the right thing. There are even times when I regret the choices  I have made. But one thing I do believe is right and I do not regret  is the choice to be a volunteer at Sahabat Anak. Read the rest of this entry

Giving Marginalised Children a Window to the World

"A book is a window to the world"

“A book is a window to the world.” This phrase emphasizes how important a book is in life. Books are a source of knowledge that can include many ideas and inspire new thoughts. Unfortunately, not all of the children in Prumpung have access to books to read. Either they do not own their own books or they have not experienced the joy of reading. Most of the time they do not know that a book can help them to broaden their knowledge of the world. Read the rest of this entry

Partisipasi Anak: Apa Yang Hendak Dicapai?

Read the rest of this entry

Why do you volunteer?

Sahabat Anak is an organisation driven by the commitment and passion of volunteers. Some volunteers at Sahabat Anak have been volunteering with us for 10 years. They have given up their precious spare time to hang out with, teach, mentor and encourage underprivileged children in Jakarta to aim for a better future. This is what a few had to say about volunteering:

SimSim volunteer co-coordinator of  Sahabat Anak Prumpung:

“I volunteer because I want to be friends with the children. I want to be involved in their life as a person, as a Sahabat (best friend). I think they are precious and they help me to appreciate life more through their eagerness to learn and by grabbing any opportunity that we offer them. Read the rest of this entry
